So I wanted to catch up with Kirrily this week to find out how she has prepared, physically and mentally, over the last few months and how she is managing her fear and doubt at this stage (given this challenge far exceeds anything she has attempted before).

Ms Dear arrived in Orange on Monday, her run having crawled to a walk as nearly two weeks of running takes its toll on her body.

But the recent response to the #metoo campaign on social media had highlighted how widespread and universal sexual harassment and assaults continue to be, and now the ultra marathon-runner is Nelson Bay-bound to throw her support behind the town’s Reclaim the Run event this week.
Kirrily Dear is on a remarkable journey. Over the past 15 years she's created success in business as the leader of a Sydney-based marketing consultancy and also found her stride as a long distance runner and figurehead of the charitable association, Run Against Violence.
Lying at the base of a tree in a small country town, her legs swollen and painful as the sun starts to set, Kirrily Dear knows she still has 35 kilometres to travel by foot that day. Anyone could be forgiven for throwing in the towel under similar circumstances – but the ultramarathon runner set herself a goal and got to work.

Kirrily Dear will run from west to east in a bid to help end domestic violence, an issue she said connected everyone in the community.
“I used to think it didn’t have anything to do with me, that I wasn’t affected by it,” she said.
A woman is running from Broken Hill to Sydney to raise awareness about the of effect domestic and family violence on children. Kirrily Dear wants to run 1,300 kilometres over 19 days and day one started on Wednesday morning in far-west New South Wales. Ms Dear and a team of supporters intend to visit schools and hold events along the way, in towns including Forbes, Orange, and Blacktown.
A lot has happened in the three years since Dear ran her first ultramarathon, which finished in Forbes, raising awareness of family and domestic violence.
She is returning to Forbes this run, arriving at Forbes Show between midday and 1pm to do a lap of the racetrack with her support runners.

HEART-WRENCHING stories in a documentary about one woman’s journey through western NSW to help stop violence against women has rocked the Hunter to its core.
The audience at Newcastle Museum held its breath as the film, called Iceberg, followed Kirrily Dear’s 860-kilometre run from Walgett to Forbes last year and captured some of the violent episodes women and children in country towns endure.
At 4.30am on the fifth day of her 850km run to raise awareness of domestic violence, ultramarathon runner Kirrily Dear opened her email to find a message from a woman who was unable to walk as a result of domestic abuse. “Your journey keeps me motivated for the future,” the woman wrote in her email to Kirrily.
On 14 November, one determined woman, Kirrily Dear, will begin an 860km run through regional NSW, Australia to raise funds and to get people thinking about what they can do to end violence against women.
